Mount St. Rita is situated in the picturesque hills of Cumberland; yet our grounds are inaccessible to our residents. The “Fresh Air” Fund will finance the design, construction and maintenance of easily accessible outdoor space. Areas for gardening, walking, exercise, and game-playing are desired. A water feature with a fountain and/or a stream will create a relaxing space in which to sunbathe.

Through the “Fresh Air” Fund, we also hope to purchase a wheelchair-accessible van. The van will provide transportation for residents to dine at local restaurants, shop at malls, as well as attend movies and theater. In addition, the van will permit residents to participate in holiday celebrations such as the Lights of La Salette and Fourth of July fireworks.

With financing from this fund, Mount St. Rita also plans to construct a covered walkway at its wheelchair entrance. This walkway will insure that, in inclement weather, residents leaving for or returning from physician visits or visits with family will be protected from the elements.
