Background
Mount St. Rita Health Centre was established in 1971 as a retirement centre for elderly and sick Sisters of Mercy. By 1989 the Health Centre was licensed to accept Medicare and Medicaid patients. Gradually the number of lay men and women admitted to the facility gradually increased since the Health Centre is open to all regardless of their age, sex, race, creed or country of origin.

Named after the well-loved, St. Rita of Cascia, the Health Centre is situated atop the hill on Sumner Brown Road in the northeast Rhode Island community of Cumberland. Set among 50 acres of rolling hills, wooded glades and colorful gardens, the three-story brick building offers our residents the beauties of the rural countryside and a place they can call home

Mission Statement
Mount St. Rita Health Centre is committed to health care in the tradition of Mercy. Our mission is to witness to the healing ministry of Jesus. Our concern is to incorporate Gospel values into all aspects of life.

Our health centre incarnates hospitality and compassion. We are a skilled nursing facility sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy that continues the century old tradition of service begun by Catherine McAuley the founder of our community.

The Mount, through its staff of dedicated professionals and ancillary personnel, offers excellent care and provides spiritual, nursing, social, physical and rehabilitative services for our residents. Because we believe that each person who comes to our facility must be cared for as lovingly as Christ would wish, our standards of care are very high.
